Red 3: causing cancer for years, but just now banned
Why banning this known carcinogen highlights the negligence of our government's care for you.

The FDA getting praise for banning Red 3 (a food dye) is like a communist government getting praise for allowing freedom of speech.
What took so long?
Of course that needed to happen. The delay merely shows the lack of care for those it impacts.
Red 3 (and other food dyes) have been linked to cancer for years. Over a decade to be exact. (1.)
Yet the FDA still found no reason to limit them in US food.
Although this is a step in the right direction, here are 4 takeaways you might consider.
1. Red 3 has been banned in Europe for decades (since 1994) due to research linking it to major health concerns. (2.)
Yet, the FDA still found no reason to limit or put a warning on foods containing Red 3. Rather, Red 3 is currently in over 3000 food, drink, and even gummy items in the US.
This should make us wonder, in the midst of rising cancer cases, what other contaminants are lingering in our foods? What other ingredients are seen as “safe,” that in years to come could be banned because regulators finally think it’s ok to do so.
The FDA has further proved its negligence by its delay in banning Red 3 and its avoidance to ban other dyes that are banned in Europe.
2. Where’s the sense of urgency?
If you knew something was toxic, causing cancer in your environment (especially something that young children consumed regularly), would you rapidly do something about it?
Especially if it was marketed to children? (Cereals, snacks, gummy vitamins, etc.)
Of course you would.
Yet, the FDA has stated the companies have until 2027 to remove Red 3.
So, sure, while it’s a win to have it banned, there will be those consuming this known carcinogen for 2 more years.
This could be a normal timeline for the process. However, what’s normal for the world isn’t always what’s best for you.
You deserve the best.
And Red 3 is not it.
Immediately if you see foods that contain Red 3, you should remove it from your diet.
3. Do all foods really fit?
While it’s important to not get too caught up on one food choice in one moment defining our health, the mentality that eating all foods in moderation is the key to health and longevity is a farce.
When you see that certain foods contain known carcinogens, would you want to have just a little bit of them every now and then?
If you knew something was linked to cancer would you feed that to your loved ones?
Of course you wouldn’t.
This happens every day. Whether knowingly or unknowingly.
However, it’s our duty to make sure that we incorporate high quality, nutrient dense foods in our diet. And to know that it’s ok to avoid certain foods - because the truth is, all foods don’t fit all the time.
4. The government is not our savior.
We like to think that the government knows what’s best. And, again, while this is a wonderful step in the right direction, it highlights the negligence and delay in proper care for US citizens.
Whether it’s in toxic elements, healthcare, vaccine recommendations, or lifestyle decisions, the government should not be your sole source of truth.
Rather, they should be a constant source of questioning.
And in the end, as history has shown us, they are wrong many, many times.
Find the truth and let the truth set you free. Not the government.
